Easy access to AI Journal

We are pleased to announce that in order to maximise the readership of the AI Journal, through an arrangement with Elsevier, Associates of IJCAI may obtain personal electronic access to the online contents of this international publication. This arrangement is intended for members of the international scientific AI community who do not otherwise have access to the AI Journal.

To become an Associate of IJCAI at no cost, visit www.aijd.org or sign up directly at http://www.aiinternational.org/AIJ/register.php. A nontransferable link will be provided to you via e-mail once you have successfully registered on this site. This customized link will enable you to activate your free personal e-subscription to the journal Artificial Intelligence at Elsevier's Science Direct web site.

Potential authors should note that these new arrangements mean that any article now submitted to the AI journal, once accepted, will always be available to anyone free of charge through these arrangements if they do not already have access to the journal.

Ray Perrault and Tony Cohn
Editors-in-Chief of the AI Journal

ECCAI journals

- IEEE Intelligent systems http://www.computer.org/intelligent/

Last issue: May-June 2008  on Ambient Intelligence

Research into, and deployment of, Semantic Web technology continues to be an important part of the intelligent systems scene. This special issue explores the range of tools and techniques in current Semantic Web efforts. Also in this issue: AI's 10 to Watch, Brain-Computer Interfaces, Essay Graders, Cognitive Brain Imaging, Collaborative Semantic Authoring, and more

The following articles are available without an electronic subscription:

A Letter from the Editor
A New Portrait of the Semantic Web in Action (pdf)
James Hendler
This special issue, rather than focusing on tools specifically for ontologies, looks at how they're being used and becoming part of the overall Web ecology.

The Future of AI
AI's 10 to Watch (pdf)
James Hendler, Philipp Cimiano, Dmitri Dolgov, Anat Levin, Peter Mika, Brian Milch, Louis-Philippe Morency, Boris Motik, Jennifer Neville, Erik B. Sudderth, and Luis von Ahn
The recipients of the 2008 IEEE Intelligent System's 10 to Watch award discuss their current research and their visions of AI for the future.

Semantic Web Update
Games with a Purpose for the Semantic Web (pdf)
Katharina Siorpaes and Martin Hepp
Weaving the Semantic Web requires that humans contribute their labor and judgment for extending and updating formal knowledge structures. Hiding such tasks behind online multiplayer games presents the tasks as fun and intellectually challenging entertainment.

Trends & Controversies
Brain-Computer Interfacing for Intelligent Systems (pdf)
Anton Nijholt, Desney Tan, Gert Pfurtscheller, Clemens Brunner, José del R. Millán, Brendan Allison, Bernhard Graimann, Florin Popescu, Benjamin Blankertz, and Klaus-R. Müller
Using cognitive neuroscience and brain-imaging technologies, researchers are building brain-computer interfaces-communication systems that don't depend on the brain's normal output pathways of peripheral nerves and muscles.
