EurAI Bulletin #2, 2016

ECAI 2016

With a record number of submissions, as described in the last bulletin, ECAI2016 is set to provide a very exciting program with a few innovations which we are sure will be of interest to all participants.

The final program is available online at http://www.ecai2016.org/program/ and an interactive program app can be downloaded for both Android and IOS (http://www.ecai2016.org/program-app-available/)

Registered ECAI participants have free access to all sessions of the co-located conference on Collective Intentionality (http://www.collintx.org/collintx).

On Thursday 1st of September, ECAI2016 organises a public debate on AI and Human Values, whose panelists include Michael Bratman, Joanna Bryson, Dirk Helbing and policy makers. This event will take place at the Peace Palace in The Hague (historical site of the Peace conferences and home to the International Court of Justice). Attendance is free but registration in mandatory (see http://www.ecai2016.org/program/ai-and-human-values/).

New this year is the AIckathon: we invite teams to develop apps that can explain AI to the general public and answer questions concerning societal and ethical aspects of AI. You can still participate. All information is available at http://www.ecai2016.org/program/aickathon/

During the lunch breaks, we will have an exciting poster, demo and exhibition program. New this year are the "Soapbox pitches" open to anyone to pitch an idea, suggestion, or request for collaboration. You can register already through the website, or step on the soapbox spontaneously during the conference!

To facilitate interaction and networking, we are also organising a number of social events (http://www.ecai2016.org/program/other-activities/): a Fun Run on Sunday prior to the conference, a WAI (Women in AI) breakfast on Thursday, and of course the openings reception on Tuesday and the conference dinner on Thursday, at Scheveningen Beach, with live music, barbecue and 'guaranteed' sunny weather ;) ! You can still register for the dinner through the registration site

We cannot wait to see you in the Hague!

EurAI fellows

We are delighted to announce that the EurAI Fellows Selection Committee has elected the following individuals as the 2016 EurAI Fellows:

Carsten Lutz, Germany

This is, of course the first batch of fellows to be elected under the EurAI banner, as opposed to the ECCAI banner.

Many thanks to the selection committee for their hard work, and congratulations to the new fellows!

There will be a fellows lunch (for all ECCAI/EurAI fellows) at ECAI-16.

EurAI Advanced Course on AI 2017 - Call for Organisation

In odd-numbered years, EurAI (formerly ECCAI) sponsors a specialized course in Artificial Intelligence, called the Advanced Course on AI (ACAI). Any member society of EurAI may submit a bid to EurAI for organizing ACAI 2017.

The course can take place any time in summer or autumn 2017, and should bear on a subfield of AI. Priority will be given to subfields that have not been recently represented at recent ACAIs. The last three editions of ACAI were:

- ACAI-15, Lille, Constraint Solving Techniques,
 http://www.cril.univ-artois.fr/acai15/

- ACAI-13, London, Argumentation in Artificial Intelligence,
 http://www.inf.kcl.ac.uk/events/acai13/index.html

- ACAI-11, Freiburg, Automated Planning and Scheduling,
 http://icaps11.icaps-conference.org/summerschool/

If you consider organizing ACAI-17, please contact the EurAI board before October 1, 2016, with the name of the organizers, the proposed topic of the course, and the tentative location and dates.  We will then give you more information.  If you have any questions, please contact us (the sooner the better!).
